beginning of christmas

-Christmas History

Christmas is a Christian celebration meant to mark the birth of Jesus. In the U.S., Christmas was not actually observed by the pilgrims who came to American in the 1600s. In Boston, for example, Christmas was actually "outlawed" from 1659 to 1681. This stemmed from England's Puritan's efforts to "clean up" Christianity and thus, any celebrations deemed frivolous. Over the decades, Christmas began to take hold in the U.S. and in 1870, Christmas was declared a federal holiday.

(Poem)

The funniest face
looked out at me
From a silver ball
On the Christmas Tree!
At first I thought
It was Santa's elf,
But I looked again and
It was just myself!
